From September 24th to December 31st, 2001, National Geographic Channel Asia, The Tiger Foundation and Performance Motors Ltd. conducted a far-reaching and highly successful awareness and fundraising campaign across Asia in support of wild tiger conservation. We called it "Tiger Weekend" because, at the heart of the campaign were two three-hour television specials broadcast by National Geographic Channel across Asia on October 20th and 21st and on December 22nd and 29th. Complementary television ads were played around the world on CNN, BBC, VH-1 and National Geographic Channel. Full-page magazine ads were seen on the Chinese edition of National Geographic magazine and Action Asia. International celebrities Coco Lee, Baz Lurhman, Mandy Moore and Britney Spears endorsed Tiger Weekend, and superstar singer Bryan Adams generously donated a beautiful song, "I'll Always Be Right There", which was the theme of the campaign and has since become the anthem of The Tiger Foundation. People from dozens of countries who made donations directly to The Tiger Foundation before Dec 31st, 2001, and who answered some skill testing questions, qualified to win great prizes, including a luxury trip to India to visit Bandhavgarh Jungle Lodge to see wild tigers in their natural habitat. (Winners will be announced on Chinese New Year's Day: February 12, 2002 - Click on the icon below for details.)

7-Eleven
, National Geographic Channel Asia, The Society of Wilderness, China Airlines and The Tiger Foundation were also pleased to collaborate in the "Taiwan Save the Tiger" campaign as an extension of the "Tiger Weekend" campaign. From Nov 1 - Dec 31 2001 7-Eleven stores in Taiwan displayed 2877 donation boxes (one in each store) to raise funds for The Tiger Foundation's wild tiger conservation projects in India and Indonesia. This was a wonderful opportunity for the people of Taiwan to help preserve one of the most critically endangered and important animals in the world. The campaign was run on a theme of giving the tiger back its power and glory. The results were amazing; a total of $ 6,748,787 NTD were collected in coins alone!

The "Tiger Weekend" and "Taiwan Save The Tiger" campaigns were a unique opportunity for the people of Asia, and particularly the people of Taiwan to make an important contribution to the fight for the preservation of Asia's greatest symbol of the power and beauty of nature: the tiger. Millions of people learned about the tiger's critical endangerment and important sums of money were raised in support of The Tiger Foundation and its wild tiger conservation programs.
